In the spirit of the 4th of July (US Independence Day), this post is about all the other places I would like to go. Someday, I would like to travel to every country and territory in the world. I saw this video of Cassie DePecol, who not only went to every country in the world, but did it in 18 months and 26 days. So, this promptly climbed to the top of my list.

Hey you’ve already covered a bit of ground!! I saw that video too and really wanna achieve that one day!!

Thanks! If she can do it in under 2 years, we can definitely do it!!

You’ve made quite a bit of headway! I saw that video as well! I want to visit all the countries as well, but I want to do it much slower, so I can really get a feel for a place instead of just checking it off the list. I’m 21 down, just 175 left, right? 😉 Hoping to make some headway on my upcoming year-long RTW trip!

That’s fantastic! I completely agree about taking your time. Where are you going on your RTW trip??

You should visit Denmark! (I saw only ’cause I live here:P)You could go on a trip through Europe and make it one of the stops on your way:)

I’d love to! I’ll need recommendations of what to see in Denmark when I finally get to go there!

Copenhagen would be the most obvious place to visit. It’s the capital and a lot of the most famous Danish attractions can be found there. Tivoli is definitely a must. It’s an amusement park and it’s the second oldest in world! (The oldest is ‘Bakken’ which is also in Denmark). They’re both so charming:) Then there’s of course the little mermaid, though she’s actually not all that if you ask me. The statue is pretty tiny:P

That’s so cool! I want to see all of those things! Denmark is quickly climbing my list of places to visit.

That’s awesome! I’m just gonna give you a fair warning though. It tends to rain a lot. If you’ve ever been to the UK you probably know a bit about that. The weather here is very similar. I like it though. I don’t think I could stand if it was hot and sunny all the time:P

I don’t mind the rain so much! I think it will be fine 🙂

Ah I love this! What an amazing goal to have. You’ve already been to quite a few countries, have you any future trips set in stone?

I was only in Munich for about 3 days, but it was a beautiful city! That sounds like a great next trip 🙂 I think I’m leaning towards Colombia, but it won’t be for a little while.

I’ve been to 40 countries so far — just added Hungary and Croatia to my list.
You could easily knock off 4 or 5 in one 4-week trip within Europe. Denmark is fantastic, so I agree it’s well worth seeing.
A friend recently visited Colombia and loved it (I’ve only been to Cartagena, a long time ago). Peru is very well worth it and I love Mexico — lived there as a teen and have been there multiple times. Read the USA Today story, though, about problems at some major Mexican resorts…

40 is phenomenal! A good friend lives in Bogota, Colombia, so I might be strategic and save hotel money, with the added bonus of spending time with my friend.
I’m torn, because I think you’ve sold me on Mexico too. I’ll look up that article today. I do love history and sightseeing, do you have a favorite place for that aspect?

I am lucky — I was the only child of adventurous and self-employed parents, which made travel a huge priority for us…my 1st trip was by car to Mexico when I was two (from Vancouver, Canada) when my parents apparently put my crib in the backseat. I had a Paris-based EU fellowship at 25, and in that year alone I traveled (on someone else’s dime) to Denmark, Italy, England, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Holland, Montserrat.
Mexico is an amazing place…Mexico City, for sure; Oaxaca, for sure…after that, so many choices! Taxco is the small gorgeous inland city where they make much of the silver jewelry and objects. You need to do serious research on safety, now…Acapulco is not looking good in this regard, which is a shame.

That’s fantastic, I had a similar experience living in Hong Kong when I was very young. I’m assuming you speak French from living in Canada and doing a Paris-based EU fellowship? That’s wonderful too!
Hopefully, I’ll be able to travel there soon, but thank you for the safety tips! I’ll be sure to do tons of research in advance.

Lucky you! Have never been to HK but would love to.
I speak French because I made a very deliberate decision to become bilingual to be able work more widely as a journalist — I studied French to 3rd yr university. That helped me win my fellowship and a staff newspaper job in Montreal.
Mexico is one of my favorite places. I hope you get there and discover it.
